15 Typography Design Trends For 2021
Researched Typography trends from designers we've interviewed all over the world!
I’m So Glad You're Here! - Thanks for sticking with me!
I hope you awesome people are doing ok, what a month it’s been so far! Absolutely packed with non-stop awesomeness! 👌
I have on-boarded some great clients i will be working with who have some very interesting projects i’m really looking forward to working on and getting my creative juices flowing!
I still have a ton of other projects I completed last year that i need to find time to sort out which ones i’m going to be writing case-studies for, and featuring them in the website portfolio.
This is always tricky for me as a designer, I love all the work i do as i’m confident that i create the best solutions for my clients, but i don’t show every project I do.
Don’t ask me why but i’m sure a lot of other designers out there do the same. I tend to select the ones that stand out to me more, not just because of the overall design but due to a number of factors such as.
The Challenge
The Client
The Outcome
The Enjoyment
Also, if i do a lot of projects for a certain industry I don’t like to show too many, as i like to work in different industries and don’t want to be labeled to a particular type.
I wrote something about this in this edition of a newsletter titled: Displaying Your Work as a Designer.
True Story: A buddy of mine landed a decent sports project some years ago. He was later referred by that client and landed another sports type project which led to another similar project that was also sports related.
From that point on he started working with a lot of sports brands and was quite happy with how things were going.
This chain reaction kept happening for him and all that he had in his portfolio was sports related projects and testimonials from those types of clients.
I suppose that’s a good thing if you like working solely on sports related projects.
The thing is he did not set out to specialise in sports related branding, he just landed a decent opportunity, and now he hates working on sports related projects because that’s all he’s been getting and targeting with his portfolio by showing too much of the same type of work.
He did not try to stop himself from being attached to that industry, and its how made him unhappy in his work.
He realises now, but it’s landed him with a big task and even more work trying to get himself out of the work he now hates!
15 Typography Design Trends For 2021
Throughout 2020 I have been taking notes and doing research for that mucky word i dislike “trends” such as Logo Design Trends 2021, Brand Design Trends 2021 and in this one Typography Design Trends 2021.
As i have explained before, the word trend to me insinuates a short life span and i prefer to call it a style, but people search for trends and just like branding you need to cater for people and give them what they want.
2021 is set to be an explosive year in typography as there is a great variety in styles with the main theme being movement.
We see typography everywhere and it’s often overlooked as it’s something we are all used to seeing and interacting with.
Although it’s going to be a creative year in 2021 for typography styles with experimental typeface and destructive typography plus let’s not forget big bold shadows and gradients clean, calm, and simplified styles are still popular.
Simplicity is still very much a big deal in typography with the use of simple sans serif typefaces combined with gradients, standout letters and cut out effects.
Typography is alive in all shapes and sizes, and depending on the area your working in whether it be graphic design or digital design there is something for everyone.
We have been researching designers who we have interviewed in our designer interviews to see what styles have been popular last year and what we believe will be popular in 2021.

Hot Find! - Logo Label Mockups!
Last year… that sounded so long ago but during the last couple of months of 2020 i worked with a clothing brand who i’m actually going to be working with again on new projects.
I purchased these logo label mockups in particular for this project for more than double the price they are now which was still a good deal at the price i paid.
They have been great for presenting label mockups to this particular client.
They are now at a bargain price of $8.00, I have worked with a few clothing brands now and i know they will come in handy in the future. Well worth having!

What I’m Doing?
(Nice to see that this section of my newsletter is inspiring people to include it in theirs. It’s nice being a trendsetter! …No in all seriousness its nice knowing i have influenced people with what i’m doing.)
Besides spending time with my family and having fun with my two children, working on client projects and creating content for you lovely people.
When I get time to relax here’s what I’m reading, listening to, watching and playing when I have the time!
Reading: I’m currently wrapping up reading Storyategy by Matt Davis, I announced this in the last Midweek Mix Issue .05 It’s been one of those books i could not put down and i have flown through it.
Awesome book! and i have just about finished writing the review and am now doing a Q&A with Matt. If you have any questions, you would like to ask him then do leave a comment and we can add them into the review.
The Lettering Workshop with Francis Chouquet
I am steadily working through The Lettering Workshop with Francis Chouquet. I also shared it in the Midweek-Mix o4 Issue. This is an outstanding book its helped me so much recently with my hand lettering a must have for designers or anyone looking to learn or improve their hand lettering.
I did some hand lettering for a client project with the help of this book its been such a great resource for taking my hand lettering to the next stage.
Listening: Spotify Playlist - Cobra Kai - After finishing watching Cobra Kai season 3 i have been listening to the playlist and it includes a lot more classic tunes than the ones within the cobra kai seasons.
Recommended Viewings: Netflix - Cobra Kai Season 3 | The Foreigner | Sweeney | Michael Inside | Also watched a few good films on Prime Video. I have had it installed on the TV for awhile but have always turned to Netflix as the selection is better. I have noticed some older films that are not available on Netflix im going to watch.
Just before Christmas i finished the final 6th season of my LOST box set - i’m glad i watched it a second time around brought back memories. I have a few boxsets i’m planning to rewatch.
Playing: On my second playthrough, in chapter 6 of Red Dead Redemption 2 on PS4 - available on Amazon
